Embodying Evolutionary Cosmology
Do you bristle at the thought that you are just an insignificant speck in a vast meaningless universe?
Fortunately, the past century of science has revealed an astounding truth: everything in the universe — including our species, our planet, our galaxy, and even the cosmos itself — is on a developmental and interconnected journey. In light of this revelation, each of us must now wrestle with profound questions like:
• How do I contribute meaningfully to the 13.8-billion-year process that led to my birth?
• What would it mean to intentionally integrate a cosmological orientation into my lived experience?
• How can an evolutionary perspective provide a remedy for the alienation and exhaustion that pervade modern life?
• What place does humanity occupy in the Earth’s evolutionary adventure, and how can this knowledge inform our individual and collective choices?
If you’d like to dive deeply into questions like these in a supportive community context, join us for
Embodying Evolutionary Cosmology:
A 10-week cooperative inquiry course designed to awaken your participation as an integral member of the unfolding universe process.
Thomas Berry said that to take in a new cosmology is to become a new person.
In this course, we will explore what it actually means to “take in” Evolutionary Cosmology by weaving together scholarly engagement (with thinkers such as Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Thomas Berry, Brian Thomas Swimme, Freya Mathews, and Gregory Bateson), experiential activities, and critical reflection. Our core aim is to provide you with a foundation in evolutionary thinking while empowering your participation as an essential member of the Earth Community.
We will use cooperative inquiry — a well-documented action research method that is non-hierarchical and deeply collaborative — in our quest to “take in” Evolutionary Cosmology. In this context, you will engage in iterative cycles of action and reflection, with an emphasis on the primacy of practice and the experiential ground of knowing.
The course will combine three main components:
A weekly lecture and discussion on a relevant aspect of Evolutionary Cosmology
A weekly experiential exercise
A weekly meeting to reflect on your engagement with the material and to collaboratively plan the next cycle of inquiry
As a participant in this course, you will…
🤸♀️ Experience the transformative potential of Evolutionary Cosmology
💥 Cultivate a felt sense of belonging to the evolving cosmos through the cooperative inquiry process
🌏 Participate in a resonant learning community
🎁 Deepen your understanding of your unique gifts as an integral member of the creative cosmos
🌱 Engage in a potentiating blend of theoretical and experiential learning
1-on-1 Mentoring (optional)
This course is intended to be a transformative educational process that guides you through an embodied exploration of identity, belonging, story, and cosmology.
Over the years, we have found that the process of transformation can be catalyzed by 1-on-1 support. Accordingly, we offer a practice called Depth Mentoring that complements this course. Mentoring is optional but encouraged. Reach out if you’d like to learn more or sign up!
